• Knows about European explorers of the11th, 15th and 16th centuries, their reasons for exploring, the information gained from their journeys, and what happened as a result of their travels.

Technology Benchmark:

• Students can use writing tools of spell check, thesaurs, find/change, word count.

Social Studies Objective:

• The students will research and create a ten minute interview with a selected explorer.

• What famous explorers of the 11th, 15th, and 16th centuries should I choose to research?
• What information do I need to know?
• Describe where the explorer journeyed and from what country he left.
• Describe what he found on his journey.
• Describe what happened as a result of the journey.

Information Seeking Strategies:

• Use the internet.
• Use the electronic encyclopedia.
• Use other references found in the media center.(With the assistance of the Media Specialist)

Location and Access:

• Search the internet. (Use the explorers full name and/or other key words)
• Use the Media center to find information pertaining to the explorer.(With the assistance of the Media Specialist)

Use of Information:

• Take written notes that can be used for the interview.
• Use appropriate materials, giving proper sources, to enhance their interview.

Synthesis:

• Site your sources of information.
• Practice presentation with your partner.
• Present presentation to class. Be prepared for questions from the class and teacher.
