THE DISTRICT

The Oelwein Community School District is located in the rolling, rugged countryside of Northeast Iowa. Iowa Highways 3 and 150 traverse the District with the Waterloo/Cedar Falls metropolitan area within an easy 45-minute drive.

The area offers rich educational resources through the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls), Luther College (Decorah) Wartburg College (Waverly), The University of Dubuque, Loras, and Clark Colleges (Dubuque), Upper Iowa University (Fayette), and Northeast Iowa Community College (Calmar and Peosta) with a satellite facility in Oelwein.

The residents of the District enjoy living in a thriving community that can boast a revitalized business district featuring our new Oelwein Public Library. Our quality of life includes a wide range of recreational facilities and activities. Cold spring-fed trout streams offer excellent fishing. Fontana Park and Nature Preserve as well as Backbone State Park and Volga River Recreation Area provide excellent outdoor activites. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, two 9-hole golf courses, a movie theater with two screens, a bowling alley, two museums, a new public library, the Williams Center for the Arts, and the Greater Oelwein Wellness Center, provide relaxation and fun for all ages. The Mississippi River is a pleasant one-hour drive through scenic Northeast Iowa. And don't forget the Amish community is located just minutes from Oelwein. Mercy Hospital of the Franciscan Sisters, and numerous medical, dental, and eye clinics provide excellent health care.
